Natural lifestyle choices

We believe in doing things as naturally as possible, always listening to the beautiful land - and the sheep...and the ducks..and the chickens…..
We are so incredibly fortunate to live in a beautiful part of the country and to have an area of land that, in coming to it, is predominantly grass.  Some areas have signs of being ancient meadowland, but then a lot of the fields have been planted with single grasses.  We have only a few trees.  So, we want to make it better, breathe new life into it by putting back what has been lost.  Just starting to think about ways of doing this is humbling, some projects will take shape quickly, others we can only start and hope they will flourish in many years to come.

Join us on our journey of learning, listening and discovery, making mistakes along the way, looking for advice from those who have much more experience than we do, but understand where we are coming from - and where we are heading.

OUR FLOCK
We have cone to the decision to cease keeping our flock of ryeland sheep, so if you are looking for some, get in touch.

Trees, Bees and more...

Now we have started planting native woodland with the help of  The Woodland Trust it feels as though we are bringing onto the land more of what it needs - along with encouraging more wild flowers, we are seeing so much more wildlife - we frequently witness barn owls silently swooping over our chicken field, during the summer swallows and house-martins are constantly overhead and in the barns,
We have been encouraging honey-bees by strategically placing bait hives - and then transferring them to permanent hives - so we have these wonderful pollinators about.
So the aim is to plant more trees both native and orchard and keep moving in the directions that the land is calling us to go.

Orchard

Picture
How could we be in Herefordshire and not have an orchard?  We have a field set aside for our chickens and ducks and it is here that we have started adding old local and british varieties of fruit trees - what a difference it has made already.  There is such a wealth of people doing the things they feel passionate about  - and we found Walcott nursery in Pershore have the most fabulous selection of fruit trees, grown organically - and we have had such success with them - a year after planting the first batch- they have all survived and thrived- and we have had some lovely fruit already.
